Therapeutic Yoga courses are for people who would like to manage their health problems through Yoga. A specially designed remedial Yoga programme can help all kinds of conditions from joint and muscle pain (e.g. backache, injuries, arthritis) to physiological impairment (e.g. asthma, IBS, gynaecological problems) and chronic ailments (e.g. fatigue, depression, hypertension).

The courses are run on a 4-week basis for continuity of treatment. Students may re-enrol but are also guided on how to practise safely at home. The number of students is limited. Please enquire about availability on the next course.

In the case of serious medical conditions such as chronic severe pain, recent surgery and conditions requiring long-term prescription drugs, one-to-one sessions may be advisable.

The teacher is Mira Mehta, internationally known author of several Yoga textbooks, including one on therapeutic Yoga, with over 20 years' experience of remedial teaching. She will be assisted by qualified, experienced teachers training in remedial work.

What students say about therapeutic yoga...

In 2006 I was told I needed surgery to treat a stenosis in the lumbar region of my back which was causing pins and needles, numbness in my legs and sharp, intense, nerve pain in my back and legs. I met Mira Mehta, who designed a yoga programme to release the tensions and after only two months of constant, twice a day practice I got over the pain and am on my way to well-being
- Isabella R

I found my way, by recommendation, to Mira a few weeks after a major colon operation, and the sudden painful deterioration while in hospital of an old spinal injury which created severe pain and weakness in the right leg and foot as a result of nerve damage. A neuro-surgeon advised surgery to fuse the vertebrae - with no guarantee of success. A second opinion recommended continuing remedial yoga. Over the past months, I have made increasingly rapid progress. Mira's detailed understanding of the body and her responsiveness to my individual needs has helped my stomach to heal and my back to strengthen
- Alex F

I have been practising yoga for about 16 years. For the last 3 or 4 years I have had an ongoing problem with my shoulder which keeps dislocating. Faced with the dilemma from my consultant of an operation or giving up yoga I started remedial yoga with Mira Mehta. Mira has patiently and expertly taught me how to support and strengthen my shoulder using yoga... My confidence is increasing as is my ability to work in this way
- Clarissa W

Mira started me in poses that really helped me overcome my health problems - thyroid imbalance and high blood pressure. I have always felt safe and in good hands. I am gradually getting better - Helen TD

I have been working with Mira for a few months on a back problem that has been bothering me for some time. Thanks to Mira's expertise, the problem is being resolved and the way that I practise yoga has transformed... Her teaching has a depth, clarity and kindness that is hard to match - Liz B
